Summer Glau auditioned for the role of Kitty Pryde. She looked to Joss Whedon, who gave her a part in "Firefly" (2002) and Serenity (2005), for advice because she knew he was a big X-Men fan, unaware that he had written the "Astonishing X-Men" comic book for Marvel, featuring the storyline about the mutant cure. Her audition script turned out to be pages from issue 5 of Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men book.

Meh Singer is mud to me. Can't deliver a Superman movie with a $200m budget.
Now with a lesser budget for the Superman sequel (Where he says he is going to up the ante aka 'Go wrath of Khan', With more action... I'm not sure you are going to get this on a smaller budget) I for one can't wait how he is going to dig himself out the shithole he has created i.e. The Kid, crappy suit, campy Lex... etc
Still think Josh Halloway from Lost is the ideal Gambit. Apparently he did want the role for X-2 but was conflicted due to the filming of Lost.
